Welcome to MUUD Academy. If you are reading this, you are considering one of the most meaningful career steps in modern health care: becoming a National Board Certified Health & Wellness Coach.
Our profession sits at the intersection of behavior change science, lived human experience, and the practical art of helping another person move toward what matters to them. It is rigorous work. It is also some of the most rewarding work in the field today.
The MUUD Academy NBHWC Coach Training Program is built on three commitments to you. First, alignment first — every module is mapped to NBHWC's published competency standards and cross-referenced to the NBHWC Content Outline. Second, evidence to application — theory is always paired with supervised role-play, structured reflection, and supervised practice and feedback. You complete the remaining sessions independently, and NBHWC determines which sessions count toward its 50-session requirement. Third, whole-person integration — you will graduate not only credential-ready but identity-ready.
Our next cohort is planned for January 2027. Applications are due Tuesday, December 1, 2026. We review applications as received through a rolling admissions process. Virtual interviews are planned for December 3–16, 2026; each appointment is confirmed individually. Exact dates, faculty assignments and enrollment remain subject to program readiness.

Every module is mapped to NBHWC's published competency standards and cross-referenced to the NBHWC Content Outline, so your study time is spent on the competencies the profession itself publishes.
Theory is always paired with supervised role-play, structured reflection, and supervised practice and feedback. Eligible coaching-log sessions follow a qualifying final practical-skills assessment; you complete the remaining sessions independently, and NBHWC determines which sessions count toward its 50-session requirement. You will leave with coaching reps, not just notes.
You will graduate not only credential-ready but identity-ready — with the self-awareness, cultural humility, and ethical grounding that defines a board-certified coach.
The MUUD Academy NBHWC curriculum unfolds across ten modules. Each module pairs lecture, role-play, and supervised practicum — and is cross-referenced to the NBHWC Content Outline.
Ten modules across twelve instructional weeks: an orientation week, ten module weeks, a practicum and capstone week, and an NBHWC exam-preparation week. Two live sessions in each module week, paired with supervised practicum activity; the practicum and capstone week is built around the capstone presentation. All sessions Pacific Time; cohort dates, meeting days and times are published when admissions open.

No recorded-only lectures. Every class meets live, in small cohorts. MUUD Academy is physician-founded, and two board-certified psychiatrists serve on the adjunct faculty.
National Board Certified Health & Wellness Coach, Certified Wellcoach, and holder of a Lifestyle Medicine Certificate. Course Director of MUUD Academy. Health and Wellness Coach and Genetic Wellness Advisor at Castle Rock Hormone Health – Pittsburgh (McMurray, Pennsylvania), and previously a coach at the Wilfred R. Cameron Wellness Center, working with people living with chronic autoimmune conditions. Sam’s coaching helps people become experts in their own lives — collaboratively setting achievable, self-directed goals, experimenting with new strategies, and drawing on their own strengths.
Board-certified psychiatrist and U.S. Air Force combat veteran. Dr. Hoes earned his medical degree at Howard University College of Medicine and completed psychiatry residency at Olive View-UCLA Medical Center, where he served as Chief Resident for Education. He founded Latitude Mental Health, a Los Angeles sports psychiatry practice, co-founded SportsPsychMDs with Dr. Torey Troggio, and has served as an expert examiner for the NFL Players Association. His focus spans sports psychiatry, veteran mental health, and burnout prevention; at MUUD Academy he advises the Lifestyle Medicine and Ethics modules.
Psychiatrist board-certified in general and child & adolescent psychiatry. Dr. Troggio earned his bachelor’s and medical degrees at Indiana University, completed psychiatry residency at Olive View-UCLA Medical Center and a child & adolescent psychiatry fellowship at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center. He is an attending psychiatrist with the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health, practices at California TMS Clinics with specialized training in transcranial magnetic stimulation, and co-founded SportsPsychMDs with Dr. Hoes. At MUUD Academy he supervises the Behavioral Health Foundations and Scope-of-Practice modules.
Licensed clinical and sport psychologist; Team Psychologist for the Los Angeles Rams and Angel City FC. Dr. Hastings earned her bachelor’s degree at the University of Notre Dame, where she competed as a hurdler, and her master’s and PsyD at Pepperdine University. She is a Certified Mental Performance Consultant (CMPC) through the Association for Applied Sport Psychology, is listed in the U.S. Olympic Committee Sport Psychology Registry, and founded Sport Psychology, Inc.
